 New Years Project 2007
Create a 24 hour New Years Tango Marathon at the Tango Center. This would be a 24 hour tango maraton much like the new years tango maraton in Providence R.I. Featuring recognized DJ's doing 4-5 hour shifts. Possible DJ's to invite, Jaimes from Seattle (but currently everywhere), Dan Boccia from Alaska, Ramu from Ann Arbor, Felipe from San Franciso, any other suggestions? Since there is no national new years event on the west coast this is perfect opportunity to put the tango center and the eugene tango community in the national spotlight. Currently the concept is to make this a pot luck so all attendee's must bring food to share, we figure a cost of $10 - $12 per person should cover the cost of bringing in the DJ's, renting equiptment and promotional costs...any suggestions and or ideas are welcome...

exchanges & micro-instruction

it might be nice to have little bite-sized workshops around the event ... instructors could pick something small to work on for 30 minutes ... it could be held on the back floor, during the milonga, just for variety ... we do this with chacarera lessons at the TC, during the milonga, and it's quite fun.

Depending on how many people come it might be nice to have some workshops/classes/exchanges over at studio B if possible, especially if they are of the more formal variety.

so when does the planning start? can I help?

nuts & bolts

To make it a successful event, we could utilize the resources of the communities networking on transportation, housing, and volunteer crew for wherever/whenever it is needed.

Planning & Workers

Someone is going to have to take ownership of this, and now. That means keeping things moving, I'm not suggesting this becomes one persons project. I'm sure some of the people who would make the best draws (Homer, Steven, etc) may already have their new years planned so it would be a good idea to contact them sooner rather than later.

Also, I can't speak for them, but I bet if you offer the U of O Tango Club free entrance to the milongas and maybe a couple deals on classes, you'll find yourself with an army of enthusiastic workers.
