1099 Chambers, Eugene; 541/344-6475

Pull open the heavy entry door, inhale the exotic fragrances from the kitchen, and allow Ring of Fire's elegant, tranquil ambience to transport you far from busy, strip-malled W Eleventh Street. The menu claims inspiration from many Pacific Rim cuisines, mainly Thai and Indonesian. Start with a Korean-style vegetable tempura served with Japanese tagaragi spice, or a taste of beef satay with black bean-ginger sauce. Curries are coconut-based, Thai style, and noodle dishes include the reliable phad thai as well as phad se yu, with sweet wheat noodles and broccoli. Crispy ginger red snapper comes with roasted garlic and vegetables. Many dishes offer meat, tofu, or tempeh options. The smoke-free Lava Lounge may be the most stylish little bar in town; try a "My Thai" or another original tropical drink. $$; MC, V; no checks; lunch, dinner every day; full bar; reservations recommended; off W 11th.
