MUSICALITY REALITY
with Ev Marcel
10 week series starting Sunday, January 14th
$5 per class, All Levels Welcome
5-6pm, Tango Center

This class will study three songs (one Tango, one Waltz, and one Milonga). Each song will be given three weeks. We will build a Musicality Vocabulary consisting of words and movements as we explore the instruments, beat, emotional intent, musical phrases, musical patterns, composer and orchestra of each song. The most simple dance can turn into something magical with musicality. Musicality is equally important for follows and leads.

Some Musicality Definitions:
Ability to Walk on the Beat
Dancing Appropriately To the Emotion and Speed of the Song
Ability to Put Current Dancing Pattern on top of Current Musical Phrase
Ability To Emphasize Small Rhythmical Variations
Etc....

Some thoughts I wish to share about this class:

While preparing for this class I ran across the following quotes:

1. "As dancers, we can get so focused on when to move, that we lose sight of how to move.
I'd like to have a dance that can express the tone, intensity, and feeling of tango music, not just the rhythm."

2. "...the dance was expressive, playful, emotive, and simple, in short, it was very musical."

No matter what level you are dancing, musicality will give you a more enjoyable dance.

FOLLOWS: Why take a musicality class, "you're just following?" Learn about the many opportunities for expanding your role by adding your own musical accents and styling. Please do not confuse this subtle (yet significant) contribution with "highjacking" the dance. Learn to create more connection with your partner and the music.

LEADS: Musicality is more important than "steps." Let me repeat this.... MUSICALITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN STEPS. A single step executed with the texture of the music can make you and your follow go straight into the zone.

The Most Simple Dance Can Turn Into Something Magical With Musicality
