 Corporate structure
Most non-profits have a corporate structure, which is different from its community (or membership) structure. A democratic non-profit (there is no official definition) is one where the mass membership has leverage over the corporate structure. Here's how that will work.

Public benefit with members

This is the type of corporation we're aiming for:

corporation type: domestic non-profit
non-profit type: public benefit with members

Members run the non-profit:

1. they elect officers & board members
2. they pay some sort of membership fee

The rest of the structure is up to us:

1. initiatives
2. member meetings and online decisions with the primary power
3. board meetings that are mostly advisory
4. membership evaluation of officers & other positions

Not top-down

The structures of corporations, even non-profits, are intended to be small tyrannies, run from the top. I'm obviously against this as a way to run the Tango Center.

The membership of the non-profit needs to elect directors & officers, but these don't need day-to-day power. I propose the current structure of project teams is sufficient to run the tango center, without an executive director or staff. The community can evaluate the work of these teams ongoing, and raise questions to the membership, using this tool, as the need arises.

Online community meetings

Because not everyone has access to computers, we'll always have machines available at the Tango Center, along with displays that announce important upcoming decisions, and volunteers that will help everyone to use the machine ("the voting booth").
