Tango Center Dance Stage at the Eugene Celebration 2006
Shake, Revel and Roll at the Tango Center Dance Stage!!!!
On Saturday September 9th, the Tango Center and the Eugene Folklore Society are pleased to provide a dance venue, featuring performances, workshops and dancing, encompassing a diverse group of dance forms.
The Tango Center is a non-profit community center dedicated to the music and dance of Argentine Tango, with a facility at 194 West Broadway in Eugene. For more information about the Tango Center, check out http://www.tangocenter.org/
The Eugene Folklore Society is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the understanding, appreciation, and performance of traditional folk arts by providing music and dancing opportunities within the community. Between 11:30 AM and 7:30 PM, a different form of partner dance or folk dance will be highlighted each hour. Partner dances will feature a 5-10 minute demonstration and a 15 - 20 minute introductory workshop, followed by open dancing.
Veselo, the Eugene Folkdancers, and the Ageless Folk Dancers will start off with International Folk Dancing at 11:30, featuring performances and participatory dances from all over the world.
At 12:30, ELLA (the Eugene Swing Dance group) will introduce you to Lindy Hop. To learn more about ELLA and Lindy, check the Web at www.eugenelindy.com
The Eugene Tango Community will feature Argentine Tango at 1:30. Argentine Tango is a partner dance which focuses on the connection between the music, the partners, and the floor. For more information about Tango in Eugene, check the Tango Center web site at http://www.tangocenter.org/
The Eugene Folklore Society will host a contra dance from 2:30 to 4:25 PM that will include instruction by the caller before (and during) each dance throughout the entire two hours, called by William Watson, and with live music by the Nettles, a Celtic band from Corvallis. At 4:30, the Eugene Swing Dance Club will spotlight West Coast Swing, a slot dance that originated in the clubs of California. For more information on ESDC, check their web site at http://www.68swing.com/
At 5:30, the Eugene Tango Community will give you another opportunity to experience Argentine Tango.
The Eugene Zydeco Dance Community will feature Zydeco A 6:30.
